The Stellar network is an open source, distributed, and community owned network used to facilitate cross-asset transfers of value. Stellar aims to help facilitate cross-asset transfer of value at a fraction of a penny while aiming to be an open financial system that gives people of all income levels access to low-cost financial services. Stellar can handle exchanges between fiat-based currencies and between cryptocurrencies. Stellar.org, the organization that supports Stellar, is centralized like XRP and meant to handle cross platform transactions and micro transactions like XRP. However, unlike Ripple, Stellar.org is non-profit and their platform itself is open source and decentralized. Stellar was founded by Jed McCaleb in 2014. Jed McCaleb is also the founder of Mt. Gox and co-founder of Ripple, launched the network system Stellar with former lawyer Joyce Kim. Stellar is also a payment technology that aims to connect financial institutions and drastically reduce the cost and time required for cross-border transfers. In fact, both payment networks used the same protocol initially. Distributed Exchange Through the use of its intermediary currency Lumens (XLM), a user can send any currency that they own to anyone else in a different currency. For instance, if Joe wanted to send USD to Mary using her EUR, an offer is submitted to the distributed exchange selling USD for EUR. This submitted offer forms is known as an order book. The network will use the order book to find the best exchange rate for the transaction in-order to minimize the fee paid by a user. This multi-currency transaction is possible because of "Anchors". Anchors are trusted entities that hold people’s deposits and can issue credit. In essence, Anchors serves as the bridge between different currencies and the Stellar network. Lumens (XLM) Lumens are the native asset (digital currency) that exist on the Stellar network that helps to facilitate multi-currency transactions and prevent spams. For multi-currency transactions, XLM is the digital intermediary that allows for such a transaction to occur at a low cost. In-order to prevent DoS attacks (aka spams) that would inevitably occur on the Stellar network, a small fee of 0.00001 XLM is associated with every transaction that occurs on the network. This fee is small enough so it does not significantly affect the cost of transaction, but large enough so it dissuades bad actors from spamming the network. Prior to Protocol 12, Stellar had a built-in inflation mechanism conceived to allow account holders to collectively direct inflation-generated lumens toward projects built on Stellar. As the network evolved and grew, it became increasingly clear that inflation wasn’t working as intended — account holders either didn’t set their inflation destination or joined inflation pools to claim the inflation themselves, and the operational costs associated with inflation payments continued to rise — and so a protocol change to disable inflation was proposed, implemented, voted on by validators, and ultimately adopted as part of a network upgrade. 核心技术特点

 

• 去中心化网络：一个去中心化网络由点组成，这些点是互相独立运行的。传输信息是分散在服务器网络中，而不是由一个主要来源驱动。

 

• 账本：Stellar网络和传统账本类似，记录了网络上每个单独账户的所有余额和交易信息。完整的全球Stellar账本会托管到每个运行Stellar软件的服务器上，一个实体可以运行一个Stellar网络。

Stellar的商业模式

Stellar与瑞波的不同

 

恒星试图打造一个可以吸收比特币和瑞波Ripple优点，且更加优秀的分布式支付系统，从而超越Ripple。

XLM是在恒星支付网络中使用的基础数字货币，设计的开采总量为1000亿个，与瑞波总量一样。然而恒星币的开采量不是逐渐缩减的，而是每年增加1%。

在恒星支付网络中，用户使用恒星币作为基础货币，可以通过XLM转账任意一种货币，包括美元、人民币、欧元、日元，或者是比特币等等。

与瑞波不同的是，恒星币的50%数量通过直接按分发计划分配给全世界的用户，25%的XLM通过增加覆盖计划分配给金融服务匮乏的人群及那些非营利组织。20%的恒星币，则通过比特币计划进行分配。余下的5%作为恒星币运营公司的运营费用。

也就是说XLM的95%都是送出去的。

恒星币由恒星基金会组织运营，是一个以环保、慈善、金融普惠为其核心理念的非营利组织。

Stellar的合作对象

 

1、恒星由支付技术公司Stripe提供全力支持，Stripe属于第四方支付，公司估值百亿。

2、蓝色巨人IBM在Sibos 2017会议上透露其已与区块链创业公司恒星Stellar达成合作，使用恒星的定制加密货币来实现实时的跨境法币支付结算。

3、Deloitte德勤是全世界最大的专业服务公司之一，大名在业内无人不知，目前已经整合了恒星网络来创建一个革新的跨国支付应用。此项目发布于2016年5月份的纽约共识峰会，德勤数字银行现在能够提供跨国的实时支付。

4、2017年5月11日，深丘科技和恒星网络Stellar在金丘股份上海总部，举行战略合作签约仪式，双方将共同成立一家中美合资企业Gingpay，利用恒星网络Stellar构建一个面向全球用户的在线支付平台，并为接入恒星网络Stellar的机构和个人提供技术支持。
